You can manually create temporary backups of your files. In addition, Analyzer sometimes creates automatic backups of your files as you work on them.

You might use this feature, for example, if you want to make some changes to a file but are not certain if you will want to keep them when you are finished. Therefore, you can make a backup of the file in question. When you are finished making your changes, you might decide that you prefer the file the way it was. If so, you can quickly roll back to the backup file, which overwrites the changes that you made.

Following are tasks that you can perform with backups:
- Manually Create Backup Files You can create a temporary copy of the file that is open and active in the interface. The file is placed in the Backups window pane. See Backing Up Files.
- View Backup Files You can open the Backups window pane to see backup files. See Viewing Backup Files.
- View File Differences You can view any differences between an older backup file and the newer file in the project. Color coding makes it easy to see where differences occur. You can also switch between the tag view and WYSIWYG view, as well as ignore the case and whitespace. You can view differences for XML-based files, such as .htm topic files. See Viewing Differences in Backup Files.
- Set Color Options for Differences When viewing differences between a current file and its older backup, you can select color options to display the files. Color coding makes it easier to discern where differences between files occur. See Setting Color Options for Backup Differences.
- Restore Backup Files If you decide you do not want to keep changes to a file, you can roll back to the original file that you backed up. See Restoring Backup Files.
- Clear the Backups Folder You can remove all temporary backup files from the Backups window pane. See Clearing the Backups Folder.
