Font Basics
The fonts that you use in your documentation can play an important role for effective communication since different sizes, weights, or styles can impact how well content is understood. For example, fonts can convey a hierarchy of information, build brand recognition, or invoke a certain mood for the reader.
Typography considers the overall arrangement and layout for a certain level of legibility and readability in the text. The typeface, or design, is the visual characteristics for a particular style (e.g., Calibri is a typeface), and each typeface variation is a font (e.g., Calibri Light is a font). The font is really a digital file with its graphic information (e.g., size and weight) to display on screen or in print. A font family is a group of fonts that share related design features, and a font set is a collection of font families.
