Specifying the Microsoft Word Output Format

In the Target Editor, you can choose DOCX or DOC as the output format. You can also generate an additional PDF or XPS file at the same time.

How to Specify the Word Output Format

  1. Open a Word target.
  2. Select the General tab.
  3. From the Output Format field, select one of the following:
    • Word Document (*.docx) (requires Word 2007 or later)

      Note If you have older Word targets where you added the .docx extension manually in the Output File field, Flare Desktop preserves your settings and the generated document will still be in compatibility mode. Therefore, if you want to use the true DOCX format, you need to select it from this field.

    • Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)
  4. Click Save the active file. to save your work.

How to Generate an Additional PDF or XPS File

  1. Make sure you have Word 2007 or later, and install the following free add-in:

  2. Open a Word target.
  3. In the Target Editor, select the MS Word Options tab.
  4. Select either or both of the following:
    • Generate PDF for MS Word output
    • Generate XPS for MS Word output
  5. Click Save the active file. to save your work.
