Specifying Quick Characters
If there is a particular character or symbol (e.g., a non-breaking space, a copyright symbol, an ellipsis, a monetary symbol) that you use quite frequently, you can associate it with the Insert Quick Character option. Then, whenever you select this option, that specific character or symbol will be inserted.
how to specify a quick character
- Open a file in the Translation Editor.
- (Optional) If the character is shown in the file you have open, you can select and copy it.
- Do one of the following, depending on the part of the user interface you are using:
Ribbon Select the Home ribbon. In the Symbols section, click the face of the Character button.
Switching between ribbons and the tool strip… You can use the Options dialog to switch between ribbons and the classic tool strip layout. See Switching Between Ribbons and the Tool Strip.
More about ribbon options… Keep in mind that the smaller the application window becomes, the more the options in a ribbon shrink. Therefore, you might only see a small icon instead of text, or you might see only a section name displayed with a down arrow to access the options in it. You can hover over small icons to see tooltips that describe them. You can also enlarge the application window or click one of the section drop-downs in the ribbon to locate a hidden feature.
- Menu Select Edit>Character>More characters.
- Keyboard Shortcut Press SHIFT+F11.
The Character dialog opens.
- Do one of the following:
Click in the Quick Character field, removing the previous character if necessary. Then paste your selection into that field.
OR
Right-click on any character shown in the dialog, and from the context menu select Set as quick character.
OR
- Click once on any character shown in the dialog, and on the right side of the dialog click
.
