Registering for a Pulse Account

When you integrate a Pulse system with a Flare community, there are two methods for joining the community. Both methods require you to register and activate an account.

In order to register and activate a Pulse user account, you must have the following information:

  • An Email Address
  • An Internet Connection and a Compatible Web Browser
  • (Optional) A Pulse Invitation You can register for Pulse with or without an invitation. However, some organizations might decided to send their users an invitation to join.

Use one of these methods to register for a Pulse account:

Closedhow to register from an invitation

If you are invited to join Pulse, you will receive an email to join the community from the Pulse system. The invitation is sent by a member of the Administrators group.

  1. Check your email Inbox for the "You have been invited to Pulse" message.
  2. Open the message. Then click the Login link in the body of the invite. This opens the Setup Your Account page in a web browser.

  3. At the How Would You Like to Login dialog, do the following:

    1. Select the With my e-mail address and a password button.
    2. Type a unique password in the Enter a Password box. Your password must be a minimum of seven (7) characters.
    3. Click Continue.

  1. In the Tell Us A Little About Yourself dialog, verify and enter the following information. An asterisk (*) denotes required fields:

    • *First Name The first name of the user.
    • *Last Name The last name of the user.
    • *Email Address A valid email address for the user.
    • Location A location for the user, such as La Jolla or New York City.
    • Title A title for the user, such as a professional or job title.
    • Phone A telephone number for the user.
    • Cell A mobile phone number for the user.

  2. At the Your Account is Ready dialog, click Go to My Feed.The Home page displays. Depending on the group membership of your user account, you will have different options available to you.

  1. In a web browser, go to the Site URL for the Pulse dashboard.If you do not know the Site URL, see the Administrator who installed your Pulse server. Alternatively, if you have access to a Flare target that has already been integrated with the Pulse server, you can open the Community tab and find the URL listed there.This opens the Pulse Account Login dialog.

  2. At the Pulse Account Login page, click Register.

  3. In the Register page that appears, type the following information. An asterisk (*) denotes the required fields:

    • *First Name The first name of the user.
    • *Last Name The last name of the user.
    • *Email Address A valid email address for the user.
    • *Password This is the password for the user account. It must be a minimum of 7 characters in length.
    • *Confirm Password Re-enter the password.
    • Title A title for the user, such as a professional or job title.
    • Department A department name for the user, such as Engineering or Sales.
    • Location A location for the user, such as La Jolla or New York City.
    • Phone A telephone number for the user. 
    • Cell A mobile phone number for the user.
  4. Click Register.The Validate Email Address page appears.

  1. In a web browser, go to the URL hosting your published Flare content (e.g., the MadCap Flare online Help can be found at help.madcapsoftware.com).

    Depending on the Pulse features that have been enabled for the output, you can click one of the following links:

    • Register Link in the Embedded Discussion Form

    • Register Link in the Community Tab This tab is only available when it is enabled by the content developer. See Integrating Flare and Pulse.

  2. In the Register page that appears, type the following information. An asterisk (*) denotes the required fields:

    • *First Name The first name of the user.
    • *Last Name The last name of the user.
    • *Email Address A valid email address for the user.
    • *Password This is the password for the user account. It must be a minimum of 7 characters in length.
    • *Confirm Password Re-enter the password.

  3. Click Register.The Validate Email Address page appears.

  1. Register for a Pulse account.
  2. When the Validate Email Address page appears, check your email Inbox for the "Pulse User Profile Activation" message and open it.
  3. Click the Complete Registration link. This opens the Register - Activation Success page in a web browser.
  4. In the Activation Success page, click Close Window to quit your browser.
Closedtroubleshooting registration issues

If you are attempting to register for a Pulse account and encounter a message that says "A user name for that email address already exists," it may be possible that:

  • You have already created a Pulse account and need a new password.
  • You have already created a Pulse account and need to complete the registration process.
  • Someone accidentally entered your email address when creating a Pulse account. However, since they entered your email address, the confirmation email was delivered to your email address and the person was never able to confirm that registration.

In any of these events, it is easy to reclaim your Pulse account.

how to reclaim your pulse account

  1. Go to the password recovery page. Depending on the interface, you can get there using these options:

    • From the Online Documentation Visit the Flare output files and under Account, click the Login link. In the Pulse Account Login page, click the Forgot your password? link.

    • From the Pulse Server Admin Tool Simply visit this link:

      http://pulse.madcapsoftware.com/Pulse/ForgotPassword

  2. In the Forgot Your Password page, type your email address.
  3. Click the Send Instruction button.
  4. In the Email Sent dialog, click Ok to close the message that your password has been reset.
  5. Open your email inbox and look for the "Reset your password" message.
  6. Click the Reset your password link.
  7. In the Reset Your Password page, type a unique password for your account in the New Password and Confirm Password boxes.
  8. Click Reset Password.
  9. If you password is successfully reset, a confirmation page appears. Click Close Window.
