Creating Rich Content Variables

If you want to use rich content variables, you need to create them first. You can create a rich content variables document in Word, and add new variables to it .

  1. In Doc-To-Help, select the Project ribbon.
  2. Click Variables. The Variables window opens.
  3. In the Rich Content Variables area, click on the Create New Document button. The Save New Document As dialog opens.

  4. Enter the document Name and click Save to add it to your project.

    Note You can also add an existing variables document. First, copy the document(s) to the appropriate folder in your Doc-To-Help project. Source documents should be placed in the Documents folder. Then click the Add Existing Documents button in the toolbar of the Variables window.

  1. In Doc-To-Help, select the Project ribbon.
  2. Click Variables. The Variables window opens.
  3. In the Variables window, double-click the rich content variables document name to open it. The rich content variable document will have a table with two columns in it.
  4. In the left column, enter a variable name (without spaces in it).
  5. In the right column, enter the variable content.
  6. Apply styles to the variable content as desired, including conditional text. See Applying Styles in Microsoft Word and Marking Text as Conditional.
  7. Save the document.
