Clearing the Feedback Database

You can wipe out your Feedback database so that all data (including all comments, topic ratings, and search queries) are removed from it. You might use this button, for example, if you have been testing MadCap Feedback and want to publish your output without users seeing your test data.

How to clear the Feedback database

  1. Open the Feedback file.

  2. In the local toolbar of the Feedback Admin, click .
  3. In the dialogs that open, click Yes.

The next time you launch Feedback Explorer and open that Feedback file, the data will be gone.

Note: There are a couple of similar features that you might want to use as well. First, you can reset the topic views counter in the Topics window pane (For more information see Resetting Topic Views). Second, you can exclude certain IP addresses from inclusion in the topics visited and search keywords used; this is another useful feature to use when testing (see Excluding IP Addresses).

Note: If comments are not showing up in the output or Feedback Explorer after they are submitted, this could be caused by a combination of old browser cookies and the Feedback database being cleared (see Clearing the Feedback Database). For example, let's say that you submitted comments while testing your output. You then cleared the database and published the output. If you then try to submit a new comment in the output, it is not processed. In order to be able to submit new comments, delete the cookies in your Internet browser and try again. You will be asked to re-register (if necessary) before submitting a comment.
