Creating Subfolders

You can create subfolders in the Content Explorer and Project Organizer in order to keep your files organized and easier to find.

How to Create a Subfolder

  1. Select View > Content Explorer or View > Project Organizer.
  2. In the Content Explorer or Project Organizer, select the folder under which you want to place the new subfolder.
  3. In the local toolbar, click . A folder with the temporary name "NewFolder" is added.
  4. Type a new name for the folder and press ENTER.

How to Move a Single File Into a Subfolder

  1. Click the file, drag it to the subfolder, and release the mouse button.
  2. If your file contains links to other files, you will be asked if you want to retain those links. If so, click Update Links.

How to Move Multiple Files Into a Folder

  1. Click the Show Files button Click to show or hide files within a folder.. The Content Explorer or Project Organizer splits into two halves (left and right).
  2. On the left side of the split Content Explorer or Project Organizer, select the folder containing the files you want to move.
  3. On the right side of the split Content Explorer or Project Organizer, select the files. Hold down the SHIFT key and click a range of files, or hold down the CTRL key and click individual files.
  4. Drag the files to the appropriate subfolder on the left side and release the mouse button.
  5. If your files contain links to other files, you will be asked if you want to retain those links. If so, click Update Links.
  6. To hide the split view, click the Show Files button Click to show or hide files within a folder. again.

What’s Noteworthy?

Note You can generate a report to see if you have any empty folders in the Content Explorer. If you do, you probably want to either add files to the folder or remove it. See Reports and Generating Reports.
