How to Open a Project Using Interface Options
Do one of the following, depending on the part of the user interface you are using:
- Start Page On the right side of the Start Page, click Open. You can also click a recently opened project on the left side. If you do not see the Start Page, select View > Start Page.
- Ribbon Select File > Open.
- Keyboard Shortcut Press CTRL+O.
How to Open a Project by Dragging
- Launch Flare.
- Open Windows and navigate to a folder containing a project (FLPRJ) file.
-
Drag the project file from Windows to the application window and drop it on the title bar in Flare.
Note You can also use this method to open any file type that is supported in Flare.
What’s Noteworthy?
Note If your project is bound to source control, Flare contacts the source control provider prior to opening the project. This extra step allows the source control provider to verify the current status of the files in your project (e.g., checked out, modified).
After the source control provider checks the status of your files, you will be prompted to get the latest files from source control, if this option is enabled.
You can disable this prompt on the Source Control tab of the Options dialog (File > Options).
What's Next?
Now that the project is loaded, you can move on to any of the other basic steps.
- Step 2: Authoring
- Step 3: Designing
- Step 4: Developing Targets
- Step 5: Building and Publishing Output
Note You do not necessarily need to follow all of the above steps (and their substeps) in the exact order given. For example, as you add topics to a project, you may want to start applying styles and formatting to them right away, before adding other features to the project, such as a glossary. However, the above sequence probably makes the most overall logical sense. For example, you must start a project before adding content and features (i.e., topics, content, cross-references, etc.) to it.
