Editing Index Links

After creating index links, you may want to edit them.

One way to edit index links is to use span styles to change the look of the index links. For example, you might want to make sure that the link term is displayed in bold to make it stand out, like this:

There are two parts that you can modify. First, you can create a style to modify the look of the "See" or "See also" portion of the link. Second, you can create a style to modify the look of the index term to which the link is pointing (in the example above, this would be the word "Dogs").

Another way to edit index links is to change the "See" or See also" text labels (e.g., change "See also" to "Also see").

How to Edit Index Links Using Span Styles

  1. From the Content Explorer, open the stylesheet that you want to modify.
  2. Find the span style, and expand it if you are using the Advanced view of the Stylesheet Editor. If necessary, you can use the filter field at the top-left of the editor to select All Styles.

  3. Under the main span style, select any of the following classes:
    • SeeIndex This style class lets you change the look of the word "See" in an index link.
    • SeeIndexTerms This style class lets you change the look of the index entry reference in a "See" an index link. This is a common style to use to set the index term apart from the rest of the index link. For example, after creating this style class, you might open the Font property group to the right and change the font-weight setting to "bold."
    • SeeAlsoIndex This style class lets you change the look of the words "See Also" in an index link.
    • SeeAlsoIndexTerms This style class lets you change the look of the index entry reference in a "See Also" an index link. This is a common style to use to set the index term apart from the rest of the index link. For example, after creating this style class, you might open the Font property group to the right and change the font-weight setting to "bold."
  4. Using the Stylesheet Editor, change any properties for it. See Editing Styles in a Regular Stylesheet.
  5. Click Save the active file. to save your work.

Note The span style method is not available for the web-based outputs (HTML5, Clean XHTML, WebHelp, WebHelp Plus).
