Accepting Pending Comments

If you set up MadCap Feedback so that new comments require approval before being added to the online output, those comments move to Pending status by default. Therefore, you must accept a comment before it is added to the online output to be viewed by everyone. Even after you accept a comment, you can later change your mind and assign a different status to it (Hidden, Pending Review) or discard it any time you want.

You can accept comments in the notification email you receive or in the Feedback Explorer interface.

How to accept pending comments in email

  1. In the email click the Accept link.
  2. In the message that opens click Yes.

How to accept pending comments in Feedback Explorer

  1. Open the Feedback file.
  2. Open the Comments window pane or Topic View window pane (Comments tab).

    Note: You may need to refresh the window pane to make sure you see the latest results. To do this, simply press F5 on your keyboard or click in the local toolbar.

  3. (Optional) You can use the date filter to select a specific date range so that statistics are shown only for that time frame. If you want to specify a date range, use the following steps.
    1. In the local toolbar, click .
    2. In the Date Filter dialog, click Enable filter.
    3. Select either Range or Preset.
    4. Click in the appropriate fields to select a timeframe. If you use the "Range" option, you can click on the down arrows to choose specific months and dates. You can also click inside the field and type a different time.
    5. Click OK.
  4. (Optional in Comments window pane) Initially all comments are displayed. However, you can use the filter drop-down in the local toolbar of the Comments window pane to narrow which types of comments are shown (e.g., Accepted, Pending, Hidden).

  5. Select a comment.

  6. In the local toolbar, click the down arrow in the Set comment status field and select Accepted.

  7. Click Yes.

    When you or any users open the online output, that comment will be displayed.

Note: If you reply to new comments from an email notification that you receive, you do not need to go through the process of accepting that comment, or your own comment for that matter. When you reply to a comment from the email link, not only is a reply created, but the original comment and your reply comment are approved at the same time. See Replying to Comments.

Note: If you want all new comments to automatically be approved and immediately displayed in the online output (rather than requiring approval), see Specifying Whether New Comments Need to be Reviewed.

Note: If you want end users to be able to enter Feedback comments in the online output, you need to enable comments. This is done by opening the skin in Flare that is associated with the target, selecting the Feedback tab, and clicking Display topic comments at the end of each topic.
