Print Template Pages

Print template pages are used to determine the look and content of pages in your printed output (if you are generating Word output). If necessary, you can use different print template pages for different purposes (e.g., title page, TOC, chapters, index).

Note You can use page layouts as an alternative to template pages. Page layouts are similar to template pages, but are more flexible and easier to use. The general rule is that page layouts are recommended for print-based output, and template pages continue to be the best method for automatically adding headers, footers, breadcrumbs, and more in multiple topics for online output. Another difference between page layouts and template pages is that page layouts can be used for either Adobe PDF or Microsoft Word), whereas template pages can be used only for Microsoft Word when creating print-based output. See Page Layouts.
